Nancy Pearl: Stephanie Meyer

Got a Nancy Pearl video that features an interview with Stephanie Meyer - author of the Twilight novel series.

This is a link to a photo on Flickr, uploaded by the State Library of NSW. The photo depicts Mona Vale Library as it appeared in 1978. The photo itself was uploaded in June of last year.

More photos can be found in the library's photostream.

The Librarian in Black

I have taken a look at this site - makes for an interesting read. The presentation is well done, with a unique flair that makes it stand out. The blog posts have come semi-regularly, and information is provided on the author in the "about" section, along with her bibliography, presentations, and an archive of posts. The amount of snark present is something I can also get behind. :)

A specific interesting blog post is this one, which focuses on digital rights management. I have studied DRM in regards to e-media in a former diploma unit, as to how it relates to e-resources. Does the library own the resource, or does a company lease it? How many downloads are allowed? Certainly it's a subject I have interest in, and one I have seen affect other medias (e.g. video games).

Social Media & Web 2.0

Web 2.0 can be briefly defined as (as opposed to Web 1.0) the proliferation of user-generated content on the Internet. In the case of libraries (or Library 2.0), this can be summed up as encouraging user participation, tailoring services to meet user needs, and opening up content for comments, reviews, ratings, and sharing.

Examples of social media used by libraries include:

Facebook
Blogger
LinkedIn
YouTube
